Our shadow comes from a part of our brain that knew how to keep us safe when we didn't have other skills.

I thank my shadow for protecting me and keeping me alive in times of potential danger or harm. As time goes on, I see there aren't as many catastrophes as I once believed. Once integrated, these shadow parts have become some of my greatest resources.

Example: Going too fast and missing myself and the essence of others. My shadow said, "Move quickly and I'll keep you safe, no one has to see who you really are." My integrated parts say, "Wow, there is so much here to celebrate. I can breathe. I can feel others breathe. I see all the gifts, mine and theirs. I didn't know it was better with others."

And then in certain moments, I forget what I have learned. I snuggle in with my shadow but for a shorter period of time because my body has become safe with the feeling of what I have integrated. It knows that this is another moment for becoming better acquainted with what I'd previously lost.
